[Broadcast Vanuatu women have celebrated the election of the country’s first female MP in 14 years.  Gloria Julia King has won a rural seat in Efate, Vanuatu’s main island, becoming the sixth women to sit in Vanuatu’s parliament since independence.

Melissa Fare a ni-Vanuatu student living in Australia said that Ms King’s election has become an inspiration for young women in the country. “I’m a young woman who is very heavily into politics… Julia is setting the example and now Julia is going to be a role model,” she said.
