Pacific Women in Power Forum
In 2019, UNDP hosted the first and second Pacific Women in Power Forums, with the aim of supporting regional efforts to increase women’s political participation and representation, and supporting elected women in the Pacific to work together on issues of gender equality and women’s empowerment, and to develop their professional skills and effectiveness as representatives. This is consistent with the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and in particular SDG 5 – to Achieve Gender Equality and Empower All Women and Girls.
- Provide a space for Pacific women MPs and parliamentary administrative leaders to meet, discuss common issues and provide a mentoring and peer support environment
- Increase knowledge of participants on relevant development issues and support their capacity to better engage in these issues in public policy discussions;
- Facilitate discussion and consensus-building on issues relating to gender-sensitive parliaments, increasing women’s political participation, and relevant professional development needs for both women politicians and parliamentary administrative leaders.
- Support all participants to deepen and strengthen networking and peer-learning, with a view to establishing more sustainable platforms and opportunities for these in the long term.
