Delilah Gore becomes first woman in new PNG Parliament

Sohe District in the Northern province, has provided Papua New Guinea, the first woman political leader, for the ninth Parliament.
She is Dellilah Pueka Gore, who polled strongly during the early count, and maintained the lead until the final elimination today.
Interestingly Gore, a former public servant, bea…t her former boss, and sitting Member, Anthony Nene.
Gore, a Triumph Heritage Empowerment Party candidate, is among a group of women, who are giving men candidates, a run for their money, in this national election.
It’s too early predict how she’ll perform in Parliament, but for the start, she’s filled in a huge gap, left vacant by former Member for Moresby South, Dame Carol Kidu’s retirement.
She polled 6105 to runner up Henry Amuli’s 4112 votes.
